Placed on Purpose
What if every detail about your story was written long before you were born?
I’m not kidding. Our creator, I like to call him God, picked out every detail about you and I from to the day and time you were born to the fact that you’re reading this blog I wrote today. Once you start to see life as the wonderful experience that our souls came to earth ready live, life becomes magical.
Like a Sims Character, God carefully picked out every detail about me…how my eyes get more golden when the light hits it just right…how my skin color gets richer when I spend more time in the sun…and more notably, he gave me big curly hair that I had trouble with for so much of my life because it felt like too much when I was so small.
The battle with my curly hair continued past when I turned 18. Most special events where people were curling their hair, mine was a big frizzy mess…or at least that’s how I always saw it. My ponytail never flowed in the wind like the other girls. My Junior Prom hair was inevitably the same slicked back bun I always did except this time, I made sure the part was nice and straight and I tried to add some hair gel to lay it down.
When the braid train was happening at school, I volunteered myself to bring up the caboose. Can you imagine if someone was braiding my hair and it was tangled? That would be so embarrassing…too embarrassing to recover from. So, I was good with taking up the end so that we can just avoid that situation all together.
“People pay to get your curls” or “You don’t know how lucky you are to have your hair” are among the phrases that I would hear from the people who didn’t have the chore of combing through it everyday. And while we’re on the topic, NO, I can’t “just brush it.”
Having curly hair without the proper tools in your tool box to take care of them is not the winning combination.
In this blog, “Placed on Purpose”, you’ll inevitably get to know more about my story, but will also get to hear more stories about adoption, learning to braid and take care of curly hair, and big sister advice from the curly girls who have set off on their own journey.
Thanks for listening and Welcome to the Club.
